When I opened the email submitting this wedding I thought all my Birthday’s had come at once; treat after treat it’s a visual delight! With bride Sam’s meticulous eye for design (have a browse of her design work here) the most incredible florals from our very own Collective contributor Joanne Truby and…drum roll please…an appearance from an actual unicorn, secretly arranged by groom Chris (how romantic!)…it’s sure to go down as an all time fav and pinned to everyone’s online wedding scrapbook.
Captured by the wonderfully talented Patrick Butler-Madden, here’s what Sam had to say… I had always wanted to get married in St George’s Church, Beckenham since I was a young girl, so once we had a meeting with the Reverend and knew that it was going to be possible, we had to find a reception venue in travelling distance. Addington Palace fit the bill as soon as we walked in – very Downton Abbey. We wanted to make the most of our day so really went for the lux vibe. Crystal candelabras, beautiful flowers – real old school decadence.
My dress was a bespoke Naomi Neoh, Chloe from BOA Boutique in Richmond. Sheila, the owner was wonderful and really knew her stuff and in the end my dress was barely recognisable from the original. I had the lace on the bodice replaced, a small bolero made to match and the belt replaced with a hand-made crystal belt from Ivory & Co. My tiara was also Ivory & Co. Shoes were Stuart Weitzman from Russell and Bromley with a beautiful cathedral length, lace trimmed veil.
Working with florist Joanne was a joy – as soon as I saw her Pinterest boards, I knew it was a match made in heaven, we had lots of the same pins and she got my ideas straight away. Dark and light pink, sumptuous roses and hydrangeas, big arrangements. We hired the beautiful crystal candelabras and top table decorations from Wedding Day Hire, who were really helpful when we had a bit of a situation over delivery times. Gorgeous flower curtain hanging in the fireplace was something Joanne and I came up with as it was a huge space that needed decorating – another idea from Pinterest and our lovely pew ends were small beaded hearts from Sainsbury’s which were decorated with flowers.
The big surprise – the unicorn!!! My husband had arranged for there to be a unicorn at the reception when we arrived, as a surprise. It was totally amazing and fulfilled my princess fantasies completely! I’ve already had people asking how he did it and if they can steal the idea for themselves.
The details: I made the stationery myself, as we really wanted to have the personal touch and being a designer, I couldn’t say no to making it all! The table place names were from a lovely lady on Not on the High Street. Our favours were Cancer Research and Alzheimer’s Society pins for all of our guests with a donation made in their name. My table plan I designed myself and each of the table’s was named after one of my amazing friends, with the origin of their name displayed in a frame on each table.
We wanted to have photos of loved ones and family so had these displayed along with our guest signing frame and also photos of our family who are no longer with us. I walked down the aisle to ‘The Wonder of You’ by Elvis, which was a surprise for my husband. We had the amazing ReCover who played an acoustic set during the reception and the full band played in the evening. We had a black Bentley Mulsane as our wedding car which proved extremely hard to get hold of but I’m so glad we did – what an amazing way to travel!
…Just. Too. Beautiful. I adore the colour palette and the elegant dreamy feel…and oh how amazing does Sam look in her Naomi Neoh gown?!
