Morning lovelies! We thought we’d say farewell to the end of another great week with a little shoot we styled ourselves in collaboration with two of our J&J Collective members…part of a series we created back in early December, a couple of which will be published on here – all of the seven (yup that’s right, seven. Clearly we are nuts!) looks we worked on had one distinct theme running throughout…Attainable style.
Yes we champion beautiful wedding design – but we also want to celebrate the looks that Brides can easily re-create themselves by using the right suppliers, utilising the talents of loved ones and finding little treasures within their own wardrobe and home. So this is why we planned our little shoots. We used real people, wonderful wedding vendors and begged, borrowed and stole the rest. Most of it was quite off-the-cuff.
Today’s was inspired by engagement shoots. We love them here and think they’re a wonderful way for couples to familiarise themselves with their photographer, practice being in front of a camera and perhaps even trial a little of their wedding statement style – whether it’s a hair style (hair designer Claire opted for a messy up-do with braid – very popular for 2014 weddings!), florals or make-up. There’s no need to go overboard by creating some whacky theme that has little to do with the every day “you’s” instead think about something you enjoy as a couple…walking, cooking…even canoodling if you happen to be one of those “get a room” couples!
We took our lovely pair (who aren’t actually romantically involved but life-long friends) on a walk with our Model Ruby’s dog Pearl. They wore clothes from their own wardrobe – ahem, and mine – and nabbed a rusty bike from the venues shed en route. It was all very organic and relaxed and it was in the moments when neither were thinking about Pete Cox’s camera or those of us lingering nearby that the magic moments truly happened. Mainly due to Pearl and her comedic timing to be fair…
So there you have it – how to simply style a romantic engagement shoot.
Are you having one? And if so, what’s inspired yours? We’d love to know!
