A Relaxed & Elegant Summer Wedding - Juno and Joy

A Relaxed & Elegant Summer Wedding

I pinch myself every time I open a submission to Juno & Joy for it’s a great honour to be bestowed someone’s hard work to showcase and the intimacy of a wedding day…it’s even more humbling when the wedding is close to the photographer’s heart! Husband and wife team Jonny & Hannah of Verman Photography  were on hand to capture the elegant summer wedding of Jonny’s sister Brittany’s last June. Featuring a romantic pink and purple hue’d summery scheme and timeless touches it’s the perfect inspiration for classic, romantic bridal style.

From Brittany: We are both fairly laid-back people and wanted an intimate family wedding. The small village that Brittany’s mother lives in was a beautiful backdrop to the getting ready part of the day and set the mood for an intimate wedding. The colours of the flowers and gardens at this time of year are amazing and only added to the soft subtle colours of the day.

Our ceremony was the BEST! Adam cried when I walked in which is what I’d been hoping for (my personal seal of approval). He also said ‘Yes!’ too early, when taking our vows which made everyone laugh and was super cute. A friend of ours sang and acoustic version of ‘Will you marry me’ by Jason Derulo whilst another accompanied on the piano. One of my bridesmaids read my favourite poem ‘I carry your heart by EE Cummings’ and we both had close family friends say a few words. Our mothers were witnesses to us signing the register and the whole ceremony was as perfect as we could have hoped.

Brittany has written a beautifully detailed summary of their wedding style – with some seriously steal-worthy ideas detailed below. Read & be inspired!

Bridal style: I tried on many different styles of dress but eventually decided on my dress from the collection Blue by Enzoani because I loved the elegant fit. It was fitted and then had a subtle flare at the knee and a beautiful long train. I also loved the gorgeous details of the dress, from the rough edges of the sweetheart neckline to the embellished flowers on the bodice and the scallop edge of the hem. My accessories were freshwater pearls given to me by my husband on the valentines before we were married making them sentimental and perfect for the big day.   Adams suit was chosen because it was unique to his taste and stylish. It was a 3 piece navy suit with a subtle purple tint to it – perfect because its his favourite colour. The tie was a soft lilac which went perfect with both his suit and the flowers, again fitting with his style in a subtle way and also the overall colour theme of the wedding. He chose a Hugo Boss belt and cuff-links to pull the whole look together in a sophisticated manner – I don’t think anyone could have pulled it off better!

Decor: I love the colour pink – its my favourite! And being summer I thought it would be a lovely warm and happy colour to incorporate into our theme. With a husband who loves purple we were able to find subtle pink and purple flowers to decorate our venue and match both groom and bridal party’s choice of outfits.
I had a bouquet made up of subtle pink and purple flowers and my bridesmaids had smaller versions of the same bouquet. The groom and groomsmen had a subtle purple pocket flower selected from the same selection that were found in my bouquet. We had two large floral displays set up on tubes of ivy and additionally two large bay trees at the entrance to the chapel decorated with a simple ivory ribbon on each. We also had a a tree at the venue entrance which people were able to leave messages on hearts and hang them on the tree. In the reception hall we had simple flower displays in ceramic pots in the centre of each table. The head table had the same ceramic flower pots and fairy lights which stretched the whole length of the table. We also had a wooden sign saying “all you need is love”.
We also had bunting which adorned the sealing and the stage area as well as a painted shelving area where we has a pick ‘n’ mix selection and a sign on the wall next to the area which said “When I saw you I fell in love and you smiled because you knew” – this was the same quote that was in our wedding invitation.

Photography & filming: Jonny and Hannah were amazing we absolutely LOVED having them shoot our wedding. They made us feel so comfortable it was almost as though they weren’t there. With an eye for detail they captured precious moments otherwise gone. We loved the advantage of having two photographers as we gained multiple perspectives of both ‘posed’ and natural shots. When we reviewed our photos we were excited to notice the extra mile they had gone to on the day of the photos they took of not just people but the details of the wedding which can so often be overlooked and forgotten but we’re captured by both photographers as an additional reminder of our perfect day. We couldn’t be happier with the effort both on and after our day which has left us with beautiful images that we will treasure forever. Our brother in law, Loren Ashfield was videographer on the day. He literally works magic with a video camera, we were amazed at how he captured our day perfectly and put it together in such a creative, beautiful, simple and clever way. We loved his ability to captures true emotion and feelings both of the wedding day and moments leading up to it the day before. We laughed and cried (happy tears) all the way through and are truly grateful to be able to have our day in such a way that we will be able to treasure forever.

Not many can boast of the Red Arrows flying overhead as they emerge from church…what a moment! Pretty, feminine and very lovely – a gorgeous wedding, don’t you think?
