Top Wedding Trends 2015 - Enduring Style We Say…

ws feature

I’m of the mindset that a wedding can be both of-the-moment and timeless too - that you can be directional and forward thinking with your choices by making classically inspired choices negating faddy trends that might otherwise age your wedding photos/films etc. in years to come. With that in mind I’ve picked out a few emerging fashions that transcend what’s seen as “en trend” as well as some wedding design styles that have made a come-back in recent years and look set to stay as “type” not “trend”…

Bridal Separates

This may seem like an ever-so-new concept but bridal separates have been around for yonks and are a great way to go if you know your body shape well and want to celebrate your assets. Lithe and lovely boyish figures look wonderful (and fierce) in play-suits and catsuits, whilst the woman who’s palms sweat at the mere thought of a dress should absolutely wear a trouser suit to her wedding…

For the petites afraid a gown will swamp you - don’t wear one - wear a skirt and top combo and if you happen to be young enough or disciplined enough to have a washboard stomach then I not only salute you…but wholeheartedly encourage you to try a cropped top and maxi skirt combo…contemporary, classy and oh-so-sharp.

Flowers in abundance

Flower installations, floral decor, cascading bouquets, floral patterned gowns…it’s the flower power revolution and I for one am very happy! For me they’re a key design element that helps set the tone of your day…If you’re a fellow flower lover but perhaps haven’t the budget for a Kim Kardashian inspired wall of blooms there’s many ways you can incorporate pretty flowers into your scheme; a groom with a floral patterned shirt or tie, floral table runners, stationery that compliments the colour of your bouquet…you can even now hire faux swags to decorate bar areas and beyond. The skies the limit where flowers are concerned and what’s more, they are all timelessly beautiful.

Luxe

This could be interoperated as an overall scheme if you’re lucky enough to have a budget befitting of it - or simply a few well made decisions along-the-way that ensures certain aspects of your wedding feel very special and bespoke. Whether you’re a woman with an eye for an investment piece who chooses to have her gown personally designed, or a budding chef who wants their wedding menu to reflect their own gourmet tastes - making a couple key high-end decisions will no doubt enhance the overall feel of your day.

Eco/Seasonal

At risk of preaching I’ll keep this brief. Choose seasonal and you’ll get the cream-of-the-crop. The tastiest food - the prettiest flowers. Cheaper too. And it’ll put your wedding into context in photos. That is all.

Ethereal

A bridal style that encompasses many others from boho bride to festival, contemporary bride to vintage and beyond - ethereal is defined as “graceful, elegant, exquisite” who’s beauty is not limited by any fashions or fads. Don’t think of the style of your gown, think of the shape. Don’t choose a smoky eye because you’ve seen it one Cara Delevinge - choose what enhances your eyes the most. See what I’m getting at? The ethereal bride presents the best possible version of herself. She transcends trends…therefore she is other-worldly in her beauty.

au naturale

Au naturale

I heart colour but there’s something so beautifully bridal and utterly elegant about a simple colour scheme inspired by nature. Whether it’s woodland, rustic or simply a paired back palette of natural shades and crisp whites a scheme based on such simplicity will always turn heads and will never date.

The more you steer clear of what’s “trendy” the more you can be assured that your wedding day is personal and unique. That isn’t to say there’s anything wrong with you taking your lead from the inspiration available in monthly magazines, nor am I advocating you steer clear of the current collections of wedding gowns and so on…for the most part the designers create based on a classic shape, or are inspired by an era, a movement of artists and so on; it’s the paint-by-numbers inspiration on offer that can sometimes take you dangerously close to “overdone”.

I always champion the interior design notion of “if you love it, it will work” by way of personalising your home - well the very same can be said of your wedding. If a decision is made because it’s what you love rather than what’s out there being spoon-fed to every single planning bride of this specific year than you’ll be OK. Decisions based in truth (be true to yourself - your personal style) will ensure a celebration that’s beautiful and bespoke…

Take it from me - a visual addict who was in danger of overloading on trend-led rather than design-led for my own wedding day - it’s good to take a step-back from time to time to cull some of your ideas to hone the overall tone of your wedding day style. This will not only ensure your wedding is reflective of you as a couple but could also even save you some money along the way…or perhaps help you redistribute your budget to spend more on the details that matter most to you both.

Happy planning!

♥ Sarah

    This is great!
I would love to see a bride sporting a crop top and maxi skirt (although I would be o so jealous of the abs!) 😉
Floral installations are just gorgeous and are a really wow addition, and there are so many ways to do this big & small!
If you love it, it will work - such great words of wisdom!
