Today I have the pleasure of introducing the most fabulous of concepts and most beautiful of days (*ahem* this may supersede Christmas for a flower lover like me!) National Flower Crown Day! Hurrah! As a flower crowned bride myself I’ve watched the trend grow from an idea that was a little “out there” some three years ago (a few of my pals thought it waaay too alternative for me to pull off without sniggers!) to a very much enjoyed and stylish way of finishing off your bridal look. The ONLY way in my very biased eyes 😉
A concept conceived by London-based florist Liz Inigo-Jones of Blue Sky Flowers, Liz devised the day as a way to “celebrate the trend and encourage people nationwide to join in the festivities by wearing their own fresh or synthetic flower crown.” A flower crown enthusiast herself, Liz believes “fresh flower crowns can be accessible to everyone. National Flower Crown Day is a wonderful way of seeing off the summer in style, by wearing your flower crown with pride!”
I was lucky enough to be invited by Liz to a bijou blogging event which took place at Blue Sky Flowers HQ in New Covent Garden Market. There Liz encouraged us to source some of our favourite blooms, taught us how to condition the flowers and then create our own beautiful floral crowns. Pretty much my perfect day! Here’s a few photos of what we got up to captured by the very lovely and funny Kat Forsyth…
And some highlights of my day and the big and bold crown I made. Images by the cute-but-cool (she has an amazing sense of style!) Leanne Dixon
Liz will be hosting special Blue Sky Flowers workshops in the run-up to National Flower Crown Day. One-to-one sessions for £75, two-person sessions for £60 each and groups for four to six people at £50 each are all available at Blue Sky Flowers’ HQ at New Covent Garden Flower Market inclusive of materials. The session also includes a guided tour of the market, assistance selecting flowers, flower crown tuition and, of course, a fabulous flower crown to take home. A fresh flower crown is available to order via the Blue Sky Flowers’ website or Liz will design a one-off faux flower crown design for those who wish to wear theirs again and again.
Oh, and here’s the finished product…
I loved it so much I wore it around South Kensington with pride. Well, for a bit…I took it off at Whole Foods…didn’t want to risk anyone thinking it was edible.
Honestly for any of you out there thinking of donning a flower crown on your day - do it - you feel incredible…and smell darn good too! And as for flower crown workshops - well they’re wonderful fun. The perfect hen activity! I loved meeting up with my blogging peers, Nu Bride, Seen In The City and Wedding & Wedding Flowers Magazine it was such a wonderful girly day. Thoroughly recommend it.
A big thank you to Liz and to Nicola from Propose PR for organising such a creative day xx
