The Flower Alphabet - H is for Hydrangea

Happy Tuesday! A good Bank Hol? Well we’ve a floral treat for you today with another instalment of our Flower Alphabet and a variety of flower that’s stolen the heart of many-a-bride of late…

Bold and blousy a hydrangea bouquet perhaps evokes a sense of nostalgia in many (I always used to associate the flower with my Grandparents garden) yet it’s fast becoming an iconic bloom for clean and contemporary weddings and events as well. Simple and impactful it’s vast array of colours - and tones within those colours - are equally at home within any style of celebration….The mottled and slightly antiqued looking violets and pinks are perfect for a vintage inspired soiree paired with other home grown flowers whilst the clean and crisp greens, white and vibrant colours are wonderful choices for modern wedding style and look best styled simply on their own.

With big heads and chunky stems, hydrangea although expensive at times requires less volume that other flowers - making it a cost effective wedding bloom. It’s long season, typically late spring to early autumn makes it readily available throughout the traditional wedding season and with the hydrangea looking utterly breath-taking dried and placed within a late autumn setting it could almost serve as a wedding flower throughout the entire year. Here’s some inspiration…
